Book Review: "YOU: The Smart Patient: An Insider's Handbook for Getting the Best Treatment," by Michael F. Roizen and Mehmet C. Oz
I picked up the book "YOU: The Smart Patient: An Insider's Handbook for Getting the Best Treatment," by Michael F. Roizen and Mehmet C. Oz up a few years ago, not knowing that soon "Dr. Oz" and his cheery advice, even when discussing the most personal of issues, would become the next "hot topic" on Oprah. Seeing his likable personality has only made the book more enjoyable.
And that's why my review of this book is so complimentary. How can a book on medical jargon, resources, surgery preparation and worse case medical scenarios be enjoyable?
How does discipleship become a way of life in today’s world? Can God actually expect me to live a perfect life like Jesus did? Shouldn’t giving my life to Jesus be enough of a sacrifice? We learn fast after becoming a Christian that just inviting God into our lives isn’t the last step to living a Christian life. It doesn’t just happen over night. Becoming a follower is a life time pursuit. There can be many roads traveled before seeing the light but only one road can keep you on the path with God. Luke 14:27
And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

| "Americans are willing to expend some energy in religious activities such as attending church and reading the Bible, and they are willing to throw some money in the offering basket. Because of such activities, they convince themselves that they are people of genuine faith. But when it comes time to truly establishing their priorities and making a tangible commitment to knowing and loving God, and to allowing him to change their character and lifestyle, most people stop short. We want to be 'spiritual' and we want to have God's favor, but we're not sure we want him taking control of our lives and messing with the image and outcomes we've worked so hard to produce." - George Barna |
